Her achievements when she was a teenager in America (which we call Maureen O'Hara today) would have definitely put her into the child-prodigy class. For a child with Irish origin, and surrounded by gifted parents and family members, these were very natural traits. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin - Ireland, on 17 August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was a talented contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin company, and also held shares of the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer club. Maureen FitzSimons came second from a household of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this gorgeous group. Maureen loved playing rough sports when she was a kid and was very good at it. This interest was combined with an unnatural talent for performing. She was awarded nearly every Feis Award for Drama and Theatre Performance the country could give. As she reached the age of 14 the Abbey Theater accepted her and let her live her dreams of classical theater and singing opera.
